Taking a quick break from my Czerny

We get a piano!

It was free, through Craigslist, which if you check the free listings regularly you will see quite a lot of pianos up for grabs. I think it's because instead of participating in art and music and neighborhood games of Capture the Flag like I used to, children in this day and age are busy playing Xbox and texting.

I grew up playing the piano and, it's crazy, but I wanted to. I even earned a halfway decent living as a 14 year old playing for my church. And the Lutheran church. And the Gospel church, where the pastor once asked if I could just play a little background music while he prayed. And I did, while he prayed. For 30 minutes. Straight.

It's been years since I had regular access to a piano.  I've moved my favorite pieces with me, though, from college, to life after college, to law school, to life after law school, always optimistic that I'd be able to play again.  Now I sit down with them, like old friends, as my fingers remember the notes.  It kind of feels like being whole again.

I hope you get them a good teacher and make them practice daily. That's the key. I'll come to any recitals.

Huh. I thought the key was in pushing them to achieve my shattered hopes and dreams.

We'll do both.
