Ka Liko and the Tale of the Big Bobber Floating Cooler

I'm not suggesting that tormenting helpless small animals is acceptable. Except when it's just so darn funny.

Ka Liko is, as previously indicated, terrified of our newly acquired Big Bobber Floating Cooler. When we arrived home from the Block Party, we put it down in the foyer and let the Buds out of their crate. Liko immediately became concerned about this strange new item. Maybe his doggie instincts alert him to tacky, who knows. He sniffed it from a distance, down on his belly, ready to turn tail at the first sign of danger.

I don't see what happened next as antagonizing him as much as helping him face his fears. It's called spin.

While he was in the kitchen, safely removed from the Big Bobber's threatening presence, we blocked off one of the kitchen doorways. Smack in the middle of the other, we placed the Big Bobber.

You see where this is going.

He ran back and forth between the Big Bobber and the blocked doorway, barking, jumping, and low-crawling. I felt a little badly when I nearly peed my pants, but it was truly hilarious. Finally, about four minutes later, the offer of a t-r-e-a-t won out over his fear of the Red and White Monster of Doom. He sprinted past it, and we met him with cheers and his favorite new yogurt bites.

Even though he is only a pet, I felt a little stirring of pride at his accomplishment.
