I Got Mail . . . and Love

I get a hug from the mailman!

This is most unusual, but pleasant, at the same time. I am outside with LSB's tiny dog, who weighs only 2 lbs and attracts a lot of attention for his unrealistically small size.

"Well, look at that!" the mailman says, bending at the knees slightly. He comes over. "What's his name?" he asks.

"Burberry," I respond.

"What a cute name! Sounds like he should have a little pillow or something." He crouches to pet Burberry. I am beginning to think he might be gay. "I did a mirror painting of a Yorkie once where you could see the mirror through the whiskers," he tells me. Ah yes, still thinking gay.

"Are you just here over lunch?" he asks me.

"No, I'm staying here for a while so I can study." I am friendly, but a little uncertain. A mailman has never stopped to chat with me before. Most of them wear bluetooth headsets and talk on the phone, pausing only to hurl my packages at me as they pass.

"Cool, cool," he responds, excitedly. "What are you studying?"

"I'm taking the bar soon to be an attorney," I say, still wary of his interest.

"Cool!" he nearly shouts. "That's so cool! I know you can do it! I know you can!"

And with that, he hugs me.

As he waves and continues on his way, I trot back into the house to hit the books. I suddenly feel a bit more confident.

First of all, your friend's dog is named "Burberry?" That's unfortunate.

Secondly, the mailman (who is probably gay) is right!! You can definitely do this, and then you can be my lawyer on retainer when I am a rock star. I'm so proud of my dear Badger...
